ABOUT
PALAZZO MIGLIAZZI

HISTORY & LOCATION

Palazzo Migliazzi was built in the mid 18th-century and extended in the late 18th- and early 19th-centuries.

Due to its historical, architectural,  and artistic importance the Palazzo is now a listed monument under the

Italian Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali.

Built as Palazzo Polastri, it was later purchased by the Migliazzi family, who extended and further embellished it in the late 18th century. In the early 20th century it was passed on to another family, henceforth known as Palazzo Colonna. After years of neglect following the death of the last Colonna proprietor, in 2006 a team of architects, restorers, and engineers led by architect Antonella Barbara Caldini undertook a curated technical restoration of the building, preserving it for posterity.

The palace was built outside the perimeter of an earlier fortification in Frugarolo.

Nowadays the village is part of the Province of Alessandria, inserted in the Piemonte region, internationally known for its rich cuisine and friendly locals. Famous for its cheese, meat, pasta & pesto, truffle and wine, the wider region is a haven for culinary enthusiasts. Palazzo Migliazzi's privileged location, in the centre of the Golden Triangle of Torino, Milano and Genova, and with the Italian Riviera and the Italian Alps within easy reach, makes it the perfect location to explore the region.

The earliest indication of a former, smaller palace is found in a map dated 1745, when it became the headquarters of the Franco-Spanish squadron during the war of the Austrian succession.

Frugarolo was part of the Monferrato region when it was acquired by the Duchy of Savoy - the important ruling dynasty whose territories strode the Franco-Italian border - in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht. Later in the early 1790s the region set the stage for Napoleon's Franco-Sardinian war in Northern Italy, in the neighbouring village of Spinetta-Marengo.

Bosco Marengo, another neighbouring village, holds the Complesso Monumentale di Santa Croce, a historical religious complex including a convent and a church, with certain elements designed by Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century.

The wider region - including Turin, Milan, Genova and the Italian Riviera - offers hundreds of palaces, churches, museums, galleries, historical and touristic sites within easy reach from Palazzo Migliazzi.

We invite you to be at the centre of it all.

OUR VISION

Following an 8-year long search for the perfect place, Palazzo Migliazzi is the ideal venue for us to realise our dream and develop our life long ambition. Encapsulating history, art and culture in a building of large proportions - and yet feeling cosy and homely - the palace will accommodate a Boutique B&B and an Arts Centre, and also host philosophical meetings in the Circolo Illuminista.

The BOUTIQUE B&B will offer 6 suites and bedrooms designed to revive the splendour of of the past, combining luxury, refinement and modern-day comforts. The spacious rooms - where silk, velvet, bronze, wood and marble finishes, and antique furniture will complement the 18th-century painted vaulted ceilings - shall offer private seating area and luxurious, indulgent bathrooms.

Common areas will include an intimate bar in our exposed brick vaulted wine cellars, an external spa pool set in a walled flower garden, and a traditional Italian garden with topiary, lawn, arches, fountains and sculptures.

The ARTS CENTRE shall offer residential courses in Music, Dance, Drama, Fine Arts and Wellness. Courses will be led by internationally acclaimed artists, carefully chosen for sharing our ethos and values.

Ranging from 2 or 3 days to a week-long residential, courses will cater for students of various levels, including advanced masterclasses for conservatoire-level students and those embarking on professional careers.

Most importantly, the low number of participants ensures they will received tailor-made, individual attention, and will benefit from sharing precious hours staying with colleagues and the tutors in a magical time-transporting venue.

The CIRCOLO ILLUMINISTA will promote intellectual, philosophical gatherings of like-minded people, akin to a conference but in an intimate and relaxed way, accompanied by good food and wine.

Inspired by the Academies and Literary Salons of the Age of the Enlightenment,

weekend meetings will be centred around specifically chosen themes that might orbit around the arts

(music, dance, drama, media and fine arts), architecture, history and philosophy.

Meetings will include a guest keynote speaker who will be lodged with all the guests at the palace.

The palace will also be available for private functions, weddings, photo shoots and filming location. Please enquire.

We are now embarking on the remodelling of the palace, and will aim to open our doors later in 2025.

Please subscribe to our mailing list if you wish to receive news and keep updated on our remodelling project.

We hope to welcome you soon!
